1870s Portrait of a Gentleman
A common practice in the last quarter of the 19th century was to hand tint the photos of family members. This one still has the tinting instructions on the back. The suit and shirt have been highlighted and the hair as well as beard have probably been touched up. The glass is the original with lots of good waves and bubbles visible in the surface. The frame is the original, a plaster on wood with small nicks to the edges but very much useable and ready to hang on the wall.
